Vacation and travel are synonyms. But not always. Many families stay home. Others go to the sea, the mountains, another city. Travel broadens the mind, gives emotions, brings the family closer together. But they also cause stress, expenses, fatigue. In 2026, when borders are open, the question of "to travel or not to travel" is acute. We tell you how to spend your vacation profitably and without losing your wallet and nerves.

Advantages of Traveling During Vacation

New experiences. A child remembers not gifts, but emotions. A dinosaur museum, a parachute flight, the roar of a waterfall — this stays with you for a lifetime. A change of environment helps to rest from school and gadgets. During the trip, children and parents have to communicate (without phones). This strengthens relationships. Travel broadens the mind: geography, history, culture. The child learns to navigate in an unfamiliar place.

Plus: it's a great way to test yourself and your children's resilience.

Disadvantages of Traveling

Expensive. Tickets, accommodation, food, excursions — the budget can burst. Fatigue. A long journey, changing time zones, acclimatization. The child may get sick, be whiny. Risk of injuries, theft, loss of documents. You need to be vigilant. After returning, you often need another rest to recover from the trip.

Too many experiences can also be stressful for the psyche (especially for preschoolers).

How to Choose a Destination

Consider the age. Preschoolers need the sea and sand, not a three-day sightseeing tour. Schoolchildren — cities, museums, amusement parks. Teenagers — active leisure (bicycles, rafting, mountains). The child's interests. Does he love dinosaurs? Go to a paleontological museum. Horses? Go to a horse club. Budget. Don't take out a loan for a trip. You can have a great time in your region.

Season. In the summer — at the sea or in the mountains. In autumn/spring — in museums, European cities. In winter — ski resorts or warm countries.

How Not to Ruin Yourself

Buy tickets in advance (3-6 months ahead). Subscribe to airline newsletters. Fly with budget airlines (with one backpack). Accommodation — not a hotel, but apartments or hostels with a kitchen (cook yourself). Food — take snacks from the supermarket, not from cafes. Excursions — look for free (city tours) or cheap (on public transport). Travel off-season (June-July is peak, August-September is cheaper).

Tip: agree with another family — it's cheaper together (gasoline, accommodation).

How Not to Kill Yourself on the Road

Bring a first aid kit (fever-reducing medicine, motion sickness, antiseptic), wet wipes, spare clothes, chargers, a favorite toy, a tablet with cartoons (in case of a tantrum). Games on the road: "guess the number," "cities," "rock-paper-scissors," audiobooks. Make stops every 2-3 hours. Don't try to drive 1000 km in a day.

In the plane: take the children to the aisle to disturb the neighbors less.

Alternative: Travel Without Leaving Home

If you don't have money or strength, organize a "trip" at home. A hike in the forest with a tent (in the yard). A "Italian" cuisine cooking evening. Watching movies about other countries. City tours (you are your own guide). A sleepover on the living room floor (imitation of a hike).

The main thing is not to sit in your phones but to be together.

Whether to travel or not is a choice for each family. But even a small one-day trip can be an adventure. Don't chase Instagram photos. What matters are not kilometers, but emotions.
