June 2026 promises to be a real celebration for sports fans. This month will be full of events of the highest level: from the main football tournament in the world to the finals of prestigious tennis tournaments and Formula-1 stages.
Without a doubt, the central event of June will be the FIFA World Cup, which will be held for the first time in three countries — the United States, Canada, and Mexico [citation:1][citation:9]. The tournament will start on June 11 and run until July 19 [citation:1]. For the first time in history, the World Cup will feature 48 teams, which will play 104 matches [citation:1][citation:9]. In the group stage, which will be actively held in June, 12 groups of 4 teams will compete for playoff spots [citation:1].
The tournament will open with a match in Group A, where the hosts, the Mexico national team, will face South Africa [citation:1]. Unfortunately, the Russia national team will not participate in the tournament.
June is the heart of the clay and the beginning of the grass season in tennis. From May 24 to June 7, the French Open, Roland Garros, will take place in Paris [citation:2]. This is the last chance for tennis players to win a prestigious title on slow clay before the change of season.
Starting from June 29, the main grass tournament — Wimbledon — will begin and will last until July 12 [citation:2][citation:5][citation:7]. In June, preparatory grass tournaments will also be held: in Stuttgart, London, Halle, as well as on Majorca and in Eastbourne [citation:5].
Car racing fans will not be left out either. In June, there will be three Formula-1 stages. The first will be the prestigious Monaco Grand Prix on June 7 [citation:2][citation:7]. Next, the drivers will face the stages in Spain (Barcelona) on June 14 and in Austria on June 28 [citation:2].
June is also rich in athletic competitions. Within the Diamond League, stages will be held in Rome (June 4), Stockholm (June 7), Oslo (June 10), Doha (June 19), and Paris (June 28) [citation:2]. Also, in the first half of the month (June 1-7), the 3x3 basketball world championship will be held in Warsaw [citation:2].
International competitions will not be the only focus. In Russia, the festival "Youth Energy of Sports" will start in Smolensk on June 12, which will include tournaments in basketball, roller sports, breakdancing, and even esports [citation:8]. And martial arts fans will be pleased to know that in June, the Russian junior boxing championship for 19-22-year-olds will be held in the Krasnodar Territory [citation:4].
Thus, the first summer month of 2026 will be rich in sports events to suit any taste — from traditional football and tennis to modern fitjital competitions.
